Ubisoft is bringing back the game many fans call the best in the series. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced — a full remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag — sets sail on July 9, 2026. Track the exact time left on our live Black Flag Resynced countdown.
When does Black Flag Resynced release?
The remake launches worldwide on Thursday, July 9, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via the Ubisoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store). It marks the first time Black Flag runs natively on current-generation hardware.
Remake, not remaster
Resynced is rebuilt from the ground up in the latest version of Ubisoft's Anvil Engine, with a complete visual overhaul rather than a simple up-scaling of the original. Development is led by Ubisoft Singapore — the studio behind the original game's naval gameplay — with returning developers and new content layered on top of the classic campaign.
What's new
- A total visual rebuild of the Caribbean open world, from Havana to Nassau and Kingston.
- Reworked, parry-driven melee combat alongside the series' signature naval battles.
- The return of Edward Kenway, the pirate-turned-Assassin captain of the brig Jackdaw.
- Modernised systems for hunting, notoriety and exploration.
Who is Edward Kenway?
You play as Edward Kenway, a Welsh privateer who turns pirate in the early 1700s golden age of piracy and is drawn into the war between Assassins and Templars. He is also the grandfather of Connor (Ratonhnhaké:ton) from Assassin's Creed III, tying Black Flag into the wider saga.
