Privacy Policy
Last updated October 9, 2026
This policy covers the CountdownIt website at countdownit.com and the CountdownIt mobile app. It is written against what the software actually stores. The short version: you can use CountdownIt without an account, we do not sell anything about you, we show no ads, and the only personal information we hold is what you choose to type in.
What we hold, and for how long
| Countdowns you create | The page name, any title, and each countdown’s name, icon, date, description and theme. A page is created without an account, so this is only what you type.Kept until you delete the page, or until the slug is released — empty pages after 90 days, finished non-repeating ones after 365. |
| Page password | Optional. Stored only as a bcrypt hash; we cannot read it.Until you delete the page. |
| Recovery email | Optional, per page. Used only to send a password-reset link and the reminders you turn on.Until you clear it or delete the page. |
| Google account | Optional sign-in. We store the Google account ID, email, display name and avatar URL so a page can be claimed across devices.Until the account is deleted on request. The sign-in cookie lasts 180 days. |
| Event reminders | The email address you give on an event page, the lead time you chose, and a token for the confirm and unsubscribe links.Until you unsubscribe. Sign-ups never confirmed are deleted after 7 days. |
| Notification channels | A Telegram chat ID or a Web Push subscription, if you connect one.Until you disconnect it or delete the page. |
| Page views | A random visitor ID from a cookie, which page was viewed and when. It tells a page owner how many people opened their countdown and how many came back. It is not linked to an account and not shared between pages. The cookie lasts 365 days. |
| Server logs | Standard web-server records: IP address, browser user-agent, the URL requested and the time.Rotated automatically; old logs are overwritten. |
We do not ask for your real name, phone number, address or payment details, because nothing here is paid for and none of it is needed.
Cookies and local storage
Two cookies, both set by us and neither used for advertising: cdwn_vid, a random visitor ID for the view counts described above, and cdwn_session, which keeps you signed in if you use Google sign-in. Both are HttpOnly and sent only to this site.
Your browser also keeps a few things locally that never reach our server except when you act on them: the edit tokens that let you edit pages you made on that device, the list of those pages for the Mine screen, and your theme preference. Clearing your browser storage removes them — and with them your ability to edit a page that has no password set.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and understand which pages are useful. It sets its own cookies and processes data under Google’s privacy policy. We never send it anything you typed — not page names, countdown titles, dates or email addresses. You can block it with Google’s opt-out add-on or any content blocker, and the site works exactly the same.
Who else sees anything
Four companies, each for one job, and none of them receive your countdown content for their own use:
- Google — sign-in and analytics.
- Resend — sends the emails you ask for: reminders, password resets and reminder confirmations.
- Telegram — only if you connect the reminder bot yourself.
- Vultr — the server this site runs on, in Singapore. Using the site means your data is handled there.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we run no advertising or cross-site tracking. We would hand over data if legally compelled, and we would say so here if that ever became routine.
Pages are unlisted, not secret
A public countdown page is visible to anyone who has its link. We do not list user pages in our own browse pages and they are marked noindex so search engines leave them alone — but a link is a link, and anyone you send it to can pass it on. Set a page password for anything you would not want a stranger reading, and remember that the page title and countdown names are visible to everyone who opens it.
Deleting things
- A countdown page: open it, go to Settings and choose Delete. The page, its countdowns, its view history and any notification channels attached to it are removed immediately.
- An event reminder: every reminder email has an unsubscribe link, which deletes the subscription outright.
- A Google account: ask us and we will delete the account record — the Google ID, email, name and avatar URL — along with any sign-in sessions. Pages you created stay unless you delete them too; tell us if you want those gone as well.
You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you. Because an anonymous page has no account attached, we may only be able to act on pages you can prove you control.
Children
CountdownIt is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes to what we collect or who we share it with will be noted on this page rather than made quietly.
Contact
For anything in this policy — deletion, access, or a question — use the Feedback button at the bottom right of any page on countdownit.com. It reaches us directly and you do not need an account.
