Tax deadline countdown 🧾

Filing day, a quarterly estimated payment, or your own cutoff for getting the books in order. Set the date, get a reminder, stop carrying it in your head. Free, no signup.

Tax dates are the ones that cost money to miss

Most deadlines punish you with disappointment. Tax deadlines punish you with interest. The IRS underpayment penalty runs from the day a payment was due rather than from the end of the year, which means a missed quarterly instalment quietly costs more the longer it goes unnoticed — and it is the easiest kind of date to lose track of, because nothing arrives in the post to remind you.

That is the gap a countdown fills. Freelancers and contractors in particular are tracking four payment dates a year plus a filing date, none of which generate a bill, an invoice or an alert from anyone. A live count with a reminder a week out turns all five into something that handles itself.

If you want the dates rather than your own, the countdowns to the official ones are already here and roll forward by themselves.

FAQ

When are the US tax deadlines?

Individual returns are due April 15. Estimated tax for the self-employed is due in four instalments — April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15 of the following year — each moving to the next business day when it falls on a weekend or holiday.

Can I count down to a quarterly estimated payment?

Yes. Set the date of the instalment you are tracking, or follow the live countdown on our Quarterly Estimated Tax page, which rolls to the next date on its own.

Can I get a reminder before the deadline?

Yes — attach an email, Telegram or browser reminder with the lead time you want, from a few hours to a week ahead, so it arrives while there is still time to file or pay.

Does this work outside the United States?

Yes. The countdown is just a date and a time in your timezone, so a UK self-assessment deadline on January 31 or an Australian lodgement date works the same way.

Can my accountant see it?

Send them the link. Anyone with it sees the same live countdown, and one page can hold every date in your tax year at once.
